Color Schemes for Bedding

There is no limit to the variety of bedding colors that you can choose for your bedrooms. From traditional to contemporary, bedding and sheet sets come in dozens of fabrics with thousands of prints and colors from which to choose.

In fact that is part of the problem. You may find you are faced with far too much choice in bedding colors. So try and think about the kind of colors you like and the mood you want for your room before you go shopping.

If you have absolutely no idea browse around online to get some ideas. and you'll see thousands of beautiful beds and bedding ensembles. It least it will give you some idea of whether you want to go contemporary or traditional, romantic or formal for example.

If you prefer a more contemporary look you can choose from a wealth of styles and color schemes in quality bedding ranges.

For a clean, masculine feel, an appropriate look might be a soft palate of tan, beige and brown micro fiber fabrics.

Micro fibers are very small-fibered synthetic fabrics that designers can use to give fabrics the feel of expensive suede.

On the other end of the contemporary scale are more exotic choices like animal prints. Black-and-white bedding has become extremely popular (You will find zebra prints in both cotton and satin fabrics) and also a combinations of emerald green fabrics with gold and black trim.

Another less exotic favorite is the always popular combination of blue and brown. The blue is often represented with a check or floral print, while the brown is brought in as a strong solid, often as a suede fabric which gives a luxurious touch to the bedding.

Many bedding ensembles are created for young children and teens. In addition to the ever-popular pink for girls and blue for boys, young people’s bedding is now available in a variety of neon-bright hues which are definitely more popular with the kids than the adults buying them.

Hot pink, exploding purples and bright limes and lemon yellows are all popular colors for infant through teen bedrooms. Drapes, rugs and wall adornments are often available to provide a sharp accent to these fun colors. Many pre-teens also prefer red-and-black bedding sets, something that helps them make a statement and express their individual personalities - it's important to teens, after all,  that their bedroom looks nothing like that of their parents!

For more traditional consumers, an appropriate color scheme may include country florals. These are still widely available, and come in color combinations using rust, ivory and baby blue to give the prints their soft, vintage feel.

Jacquard prints, which are floral prints machine-woven into a solid or print background, still remain a top color scheme for bedding. Popular colors are maroon, slate blue and a wide variety of browns.

If your bed frame will be on display after you arrange your bedding the you need to consider it in your choice of colors.

Metallic bed frames usually lend themselves to a contemporary look (although there are also some metal bedframes in Victorian period style). Some wooden frames are traditional or country while others are more contemporary.

When you choose your bed linen, don't just think about what you like, think about it on your bed.

Interior designers look at all the elements in a room before picking a color scheme and then they try out different colors of bedding, carpet, curtains and furniture to create the right look and mood for your room.

If you want to design your own bedroom you can use the colors in a bedding ensemble or duvet cover as a starting point provided there are enough colors to use.  Take various colors from the bedding for paint, carpet and accessories so that eerything ties together. If you prefer plain bedding than look for a fabric which you love and use it for other soft furnishings in the room picking out colors from the fabric for the walls, accessories and flooring.

You can get bedding in all colors at all price ranges so if you have your heart on a particular color you should be able to find it within your budget particularly if it is one of the more popular colors this year.

However do be aware that colors of more expensive bedding are often more vibrant and tend to fade less with laundering as they use better fabrics on the whole.

If you want your bedding to last and last choose the more luxurious end of the spectrum but then look for your luxury bedding at a discount - usually available during sale periods at the very least.
